Wire Speed L2 & L3
- Wire speed packet Switching in both L2 and L3, with switch fabric of up to 48Gbit/s. Level 2 and 3 protocols are built by software in order to generate MAC tables and IP routes, but the L2 switching and the L3 routing are both done via hardware.
- DM4000 product family supports static and dynamic routing – RIPv2, OSPFv2 and BGPv4. TLS – Transparent LAN Services – is possible by creating L2 VPN over MPLS. Supports the creation of L3 VPN over MPLS by using BGP as per RFC 2547.
- Centralized FCAPS management available by using DMView over Windows and Solaris platforms. Command Line Interface – CLI) with automatic syntax command help and SSH, Telnet and RS232 console parameters are available. Internal web server with SSL, SNMP v1, v2, v3 and 4 RMON groups can be used. In order to allow the standalone use, all interface cards are equipped with optional Ethernet interface for out-of-band management.
- DM4001 allows the creation of complex Access Control Lists (ACLs), with multiples comparison and action parameters that allow packet change, modification, forward, discharge or prioritization.
- Cabling and network diagnosing tools are available. It is possible to test cabling problems, showing the approximate distance of the occurrence. Interface and packet flow monitoring is also available. It is possible to redirection one interface traffic for a different one.
- DM4001 has 8 queues per interface, with prioritization algorithms that allow to determine which data will be prioritized, which will be the queue priority, what will be the minimum forwarding tax or a combination of all these techniques. The classification may be done according to: IEEE 802.1p; IP Precedence fields, or DSCP; TCP and UDP interfaces, among other possibilities; data treatment up to level L7.
- Band control with granularity of up to 64kbit/s on CIR (Committed Information Rate) and PIR (Peak Information Rate) can be applied to the incoming traffic and to the outgoing traffic ports. It can also be applied to a certain packet flow by using filters.
- DM4000 product line is equipped with mechanisms that guarantee safe operation and easy maintenance of the equipment installed. Besides the use of cryptographic communication protocols, it is possible to specify, by using filters, which equipment may have access to the network devices.
- By using local or remote Syslog, RADIUS and TACACS+ user authentication, e-mail alarm notification, unique SNTP clock, protection against Denial of Service and port authentication via 802.1x, it is possible to build an extremely reliable management structure.
- Metro Ethernet applications can take advantage of features like: limitation of maximum MAC numbers per port or per VLAN; protection mechanisms for L2 and L3 protocols against network attacks; band limitation for broadcast and multicast traffic; destination lookup failure (DLF).
- 4.096 virtual LANs can be created simultaneously, according to IEEE 802.1Q. Double tagging (Q-in-Q) is also available, allowing the creation of Transparent LAN Services (TLS). VLANs can be defined by protocol, MAC address and by IP-subnet, with port overlap being possible on port-based VLANs. Dynamic configuration can be done by using GVRP protocol.
- Spanning Tree protocols are available including RSTP, which has shorter convergence times. MSTP can be used for better resource usage and higher scalability. EAPS is ideal for less than 50 milliseconds protection in Ethernet rings. The link aggregation feature can group physical ports forming logical ports with automatic load balancing and typical recovery time of less than 200 milliseconds. All those features enable the construction of protected topologies with quick fail restoration for Metro Ethernet applications.
