Technical Manager

Full-Time – 37 hours/week, Office-Based Role

We are looking to appoint a Technical Manager to lead an existing team of technical Support Engineers within a rapidly growing business.

Cherry & White Ltd is an established telecommunications company serving Government, FTTX/GPON, Transport and Utility markets. We are looking to appoint a Technical Manager to lead an existing team of technical Support Engineers within a rapidly growing business.

What are we looking for?

The ideal applicant must be able to demonstrate a deep technical background, a good understanding of technologies we work with (PDH, SDH, Ethernet/IP, MPLS, GPON, DWDM, Cellular and Wireless) including specialist knowledge in some of these areas and an interest in learning new technologies as they develop.

The role requires a strategic thinking individual that works well under pressure and achieves tight timescales—identifying and resolving technical issues in an accurate and timely manner.

Within the Technical Manager role, there will also be frequent liaison with the Sales team to assist on tenders, using technical experience to propose relevant solutions enabling accurate and confident bids to be put forward.

Essential:

  • Familiar with a range of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, optical power metres & light sources, frequency counters, BERTs, cellular scanners and multimeters.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Proven management and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of technical best practices

Desirable:

  • Experience in a similar role
  • Project management experience
  • SC / DV clearance

We provide 24/7 support to our customers so the ability to participate in a “week on – 3 weeks off” out-of-hours rota is essential. This will take the form of phone support, Email support and the occasional site visit.

Technical Support Engineer

What are we looking for?

The ideal applicant must be able to demonstrate a technical background, with a base understanding of technologies we work with (PDH, SDH, Ethernet/IP, MPLS, GPON, DWDM, Cellular and Wireless) including specialist knowledge in at least one of these areas (preferably GPON/FTTX) and an interest in learning new technologies as they develop.

We are looking for a positive, hardworking candidate who is willing to learn and keep on top of modern communication technologies as the telecommunication industry evolves. The company has a reputation for integrity and strong technical capability, the applicant will need to be a team player who can contribute ideas and apply good fault resolution methodology in an open
environment.

Essential:

  • Good customer-facing skills.
  • Experienced in fault-finding methodology.
  • A good work ethic that shows pride in their work.
  • The ability to manage tickets from start to finish

Desirable:

  • Familiar with a range of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, optical power meters & light sources, frequency counters, BERTs, cellular scanners and multimeters.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or autonomously when required using their own initiative.
  • The ability to train other members of the team and customers.
  • HNC level or above in a telecommunications field
  • SC / DV clearance
