Product Technician

We are recruiting for a Product Technician to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to prepare equipment prior to despatch. this will include; physical builds, firmware updates, and pre-configurations.

Cherry & White Ltd is an established company serving Military, Government, Transport and Utility markets. The company is looking to appoint two additional Technical Support Engineers that will be fundamental to the company’s operational capability, accordingly for the right applicant, a defined career path is available with future options available.

The company markets a wide range of PDH, SDH, Ethernet/IP, MPLS, GPON, DWDM, Cellular and Wireless based networking equipment. We provide and manage a variety of SNMP based network management systems that run on Linux, Solaris and Windows servers.

The primary responsibility of this role is to prepare equipment for orders. This entails creating and testing baseline configurations and build standards for projects, whilst ensuring that all equipment is prepared correctly prior to being dispatched to the customers site. The tasks will involve hardware builds, firmware updates, configuration uploads, pre-deployment testing and ensuring all work is documented.

We are looking for a positive, hardworking person who is methodical, thorough and pays attention to detail. The right personal will be able to work as part of team or autonomously, to create robust and reliable solutions in a fast-paced technical team.

Ideally the applicant should have experience in configuring and testing active equipment, as well as having an understanding of multiple telecommunication technologies such as IP, GPON, Cellular, TDM, etc.

The company is offering an attractive salary for the right person, this will be very dependent on previous experience and their levels of knowledge.

Technical Support Engineer

We are recruiting for a Technical Support Engineer to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to support our customers by providing post sales services, assist the sales team with pre-sales support, and maintain our internal company network.

The company is looking to appoint two additional Technical Support Engineers that will be fundamental to the company’s operational capability, accordingly for the right applicant, a defined career path is available with future options available.

The company markets a wide range of PDH, SDH, Ethernet/IP, MPLS, GPON, DWDM, Cellular and Wireless based networking equipment. We provide and manage a variety of SNMP based network management systems that run on Linux, Solaris and Windows servers. The applicant must have a basic understanding of these technologies with specialist knowledge in at least one of the areas.

We are looking for a positive, hardworking candidate who is willing to learn and keep on top of modern communication technologies as the telecommunication industry evolves. The company has a reputation for integrity and strong technical capability, the applicant will need to be a team player who can contribute ideas and apply good fault resolution methodology in an open environment. This person must also be capable of applying this knowledge both on site with customers and in house.

Ideally the applicant should be educated to HNC level or above in a telecommunications field and preferably hold security clearance such as SC or DV, however this is not mandatory.

We provide 24/7 support to our customers so the ability to participate in a “week on – 3 weeks off” out of hours rota is essential. This will take the form phone support, Email support and the occasional site visit.

The company is offering an attractive salary for the right person, this will be very dependent on previous experience and their levels of knowledge. To earn the upper end of the salary the applicant would be expected to have personnel management or project management experience and would therefore be placed in a senior engineer role. The initial employment will be a 3 month trial period followed by a permanent contract if the candidate’s performance has been satisfactory. Upon completion of the trial period the candidate will also be offered a contributory private pension scheme where on Cherry & White will contribute 3% of the annual salary.

Key Skills

  • Familiar with a range of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, optical power meters & light sources, frequency counters, BERT’s, cellular scanners and multimetres.
  • Good customer facing skills.
  • Ability to work as part of team or autonomously using their own initiative.
  • The ability to train other members of the team and customers.
  • Experienced in fault finding methodology.
  • A good work ethic that shows pride for their work.
  • The ability to manage fault tickets from beginning to end
